Cotton and Indigo Projects!

ree

In September, the IKTT Village was hit by two major floods.

The first flood submerged most of our land, including workshops and houses.

Just as we finished cleaning and were ready to return to daily life, another big flood came again.

It was a difficult time, but we are slowly recovering, and the damaged fields are coming back to life.

☘️Project Support Fund Report

  • Goal: 1,000,000 JPY

  • Donations received: 442,562 JPY (as of October)

  • Remaining goal: 557,438 JPY

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us so far.

Half of our goal has been reached, and we kindly ask for your continued warm support.

Indigo and Cotton Projects

In August, our team joined an indigo dyeing training in Kampong Cham Province.

Later in September, we learned how to harvest indigo plants and make sedimented indigo.

Four members joined the training — Ryna and Yan (in charge of dyeing), Vanna Ly (project manager), and Tet (site manager).

Through this training, they gained hands-on experience in each step of the process.

Now at IKTT, we are using sedimented indigo paste purchased in Kampong Cham to create beautiful cotton scarves with the gentle touch and warmth of hand-spun yarn.

By mid-October, several scarves have been completed — each one filled with the blessings of nature.

Cotton Cultivation Has Also Started!

「In August, we began growing cotton from seeds.

Last week, we prepared the fields and planted about 500 cotton seedlings, which are now growing well.

Since indigo prefers land that floods during the rainy season, we are nurturing young plants while waiting for the water to recede.

Thanks to the leadership of Vanna Ly and Tet, our project is steadily moving forward, and the IKTT Village feels more alive than ever.

Next Challenge: “Red”

The next step is the red dye made from lac insects, an essential color in Khmer traditional textiles.

We have started preparing the area around the host trees for test breeding.

In November, Vanna Ly and Tet will travel to another region in Cambodia to study local lac production.

Although the recent floods caused some damage,

we feel that in the natural cycle, even such events bring nourishment to the soil.

Floods, rain, and sunlight — all are forces that nurture our cloth.

Living in harmony with nature,

we continue to move forward, one step at a time.
